High incidence of this disease, caused by Neovossia indica, occurred in 1973, 1979, 1981 and 1982. These epiphytotics were due to the wheat cultivars used, meteorological factors and agronomic practices. Temp. below 25 degrees C coupled with av. RH of 67-78% and 14-28 rainy plus cloudy days in Feb.-Mar. (ear emergence) were conducive to disease development.
