The Conservation of Biodiverse Resource Areas (COBRA) project in Kenya has three operational approaches: dialogue, benefit sharing, and enterprise development. These approaches are outlined with the help of case studies. The experience of the Tsavo West Community Conservation Project shows that a process of dialogue can achieve solutions which balance conservation and community livelihood needs, although such gains can be fragile.
