The ability of some synthetic resins to produce a voluminous char on exposure to heat offers the hope that a superior fire-retardant coating can be developed from such materials. Additional research is necessary to standardize conditions of preparation of ethylidene ureaformaldehyde preparations so that reproducibility of results can be obtained and to improve flexibility and stability of the coatings.
