Effect of Bengal gram, Kabuli gram, green gram and Bajra on serum and tissue lipids in rabbits fed on hypercholesterolaemic diet

Forty rabbits were divided into five groups given hypercholesterolaemia-inducing diet alone or with Bengal gram, Kabuli gram, green gram or bajra. All the animals showed a progressive rise in serum lipid levels. It was most marked in the control group and least in rabbits fed on Bengal gram and Kabuli gram. The difference between Bengal gram and Kabuli gram was insignificant. The mode of hypocholesterolaemic action of Bengal gram and Kabuli gram is not clearly defined.
