Ectoparasites of rodents in the area of Edfina (Behera Governorate), Egypt

An examination of 44 rats (Rattus rattus) caught in wire box traps in the Edfina area of Behera Governorate, Egypt, between May and October 1982 showed that 100% were infested with fleas (Xenopsylla cheopis (Roths.), Pulex irritans L., Leptopsylla segnis (Schonh.) or Ctenocephalides felis felis (Bch.)), 11.4% with mites (Ornithonyssus bacoti (Hirst) or Laelaps echidnina Berl. (Echinolaelaps echidnina)) and 4.5% with lice (Polyplax spinulosa (Burm.)).
