I. Preliminary note on attempts to attenuate African swine fever virus. II. Experiments with pigs that survived African swine fever
Anais dos Serviços Veterinárias de Moçambique12/14: 91-94; 95-100
The virus, isolated in Mozambique in 1960, was passaged serially in pig leukocyte culture. Trials, by i/m injection into pigs, of virus harvested after 100 and 110 passages showed that the virulence for pigs was maintained. The virus from the 100th passage has since been maintained by 26 alternate passages in pig and goat leukocyte cultures with no trial of virulence to date. A further attempt to passage the virus in goat leukocyte culture only is also in progress.
