Land tenure and economic development. (A study of the economic consequences of land registration in Kenya's smallholder areas

Some findings are presented of a recent project for the Queen's University of Belfast which aimed to examine the interrelationship between land tenure reform and economic change with reference to a developing country. The effects of one type of land reform, land registration, were studied in detail. This is of particular interest in Northern Ireland where a compulsory system of registration of all land involved in dealings is to be introduced, following the Lowry report.
