The effect of water deficits in soyabeans on the growth and survival of larvae of the coccinellid Epilachna varivestis was studied in the laboratory at 23 degrees C and LD 14:10, in a greenhouse and in the field in Virginia during 1983-84. Larval survival, growth rate and pupal weight were reduced and development time was increased when larvae were reared on foliage from plants subjected to water deficits.
