Pigs 2 to 6 months old were fed on a semisynthetic diet; the controls were starved for 4 days but allowed freely drinking water containing NaCl 0.14 g/litre and citric acid 0.5 g/litre. When the pigs were on the control diet which contained iron, copper, zinc and manganese at 8.2, 0.6, 3.7 and 3.3 mg/kg, values were 10% of normal, and excretion of those elements was very low. Excretion decreased as the duration of starvation increased.
