In Egypt, 450 children and adults from El Kantara district, Ismailiya Governorate, were examined for parasitic infections. 60.2% were positive. 6 species of helminths and 3 of protozoans were recorded (non-pathogenic protozoans were excluded). Entamoeba histolytica occurred in 6.7%, Giardia lamblia in 5.8% and Trichomonas vaginalis in 0.7%. Seven of 297 schoolchildren had cutaneous lesions suggesting Leishmania tropica infection but this was confirmed microscopically in only 3 cases.
