Changes in ribonucleic acid and protein contents of cell fractions in isolated leaves of Euphorbia pulcherrima during rooting

Leaves were cut from non-flowering plants and placed in a solution of IBA for 24 hours and then in tap water. Amounts of RNA and protein in the leaves during root development were determined in subcellular fractions. Before root regeneration the contents of RNA and protein decreased in the particle-free fraction and in the slowly sedimenting fractions containing microsomes and mitochondria, but increased in the fraction containing the nuclei and chloroplasts.
