Evaluation of the workload when operating self-propelled sugar beet harvesters

The force needed to operate the hand and foot controls of self-propelled beet harvesters and beet toppers, the distance of travel of the controls and the time taken for individual control tasks were measured with a spring dynamometer and strain gauges on a clay loam field with a yield of 23.5 t beet/ha and 23.5 t tops/ha, with the harvester travelling at 4.5 km/h and the topper 3.9 km/h.
