An analysis of data on 838 trotters indicated that foals born early in the year have an advantage in trotting performance only as 2-yr-olds over animals born later in the year. For trotters which had a time better than 1 min 24 s for an unspecified distance, the percentages born in Jan., Feb., Mar., Apr. and May were 9.6, 14.1, 9.9, 16.9 and 16.9 resp.
