Yolk platelets in the oocytes of two emydine turtles, Kachuga tectum tectum and Kachuga smithi (Emydidae)

The yolk platelets are described during the course of development of the oocytes of two freshwater turtles, Kachuga tectum tectum and Kachuga smithi. In K. smithi the yolk platelets are spherical, but in K. tectum tectum they have different shapes, i.e. spherical, rod-shaped, barrel-shaped, discoid, goblet-shaped and various geometric forms such as triangles, rhombi and rectangles - a feature which is evidently species specific.
