The facial muscles of papio ursinus
South African Journal of Science 75(1): 30-37
The facial muscles of the Chacma baboon, P. ursinus were described as seen in 10 preserved specimens. The large size and extent of the muscles were noted. Each muscle was individually described and its function in the baboon was discussed. The mechanism of the buccinator pouch was analyzed and the excessively developed platysma muscle was considered from a functional viewpoint, as was its relationship with the panniculus carnosus.
