Raw and diluted skim milk was demineralized by electrodialysis using laboratory scale and medium size Tokuyama Soda TU-2.7 and TU-20 equipment with ion exchange resins from the same company. From the decrease in specific conductivity a reduction of >80% in mineral content was possible with the laboratory scale equipment. At speeds of >10 cm/s in the column there was a tendency for protein to adhere to the resins. A cleaning procedure involved both alkaline and acid washes.
