In trials in 1967-9 on brown forest acid (pH 4.1) soil, the tuber yield response in early- and mid-early potato was highest to the application of P, K or organic manures and that in intermediate- and late-maturing was highest to the application of N. Application of P was the most effective in stimulating tuber formation and increasing tuber size and DM and starch content in the tubers; applied N was the most effective in increasing protein content.
